The BBC understand that a report due out next week from the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) will recognise the role that soil degradation plays in fuelling climate change as well as compromising our ability to feed a growing world population.
The report will state that climate change can't be halted if we carry on degrading soil.
